Oriental Pearl TV Tower

Located at the point of Lujiazui of die bank of Huangpn River, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower races the Bund Buildings across the Huangpu River with Narrpu Bridge and Yangpu Bridge built on either side; it forms a picture of two dragons frolicking with a pearl, and has become the landmark building of Shanghai City in-21st century. The Oriental Pearl TV and Radio Tower started to be built from July 30, 1991 and brought to completion on October 1, 1994.

As the TV Tower in Shanghai, the building is full of the designer's fantastic imagination, having 11 spheres arranged in order of their sizes like a string of pearls from high up in the blue sky down to a carpet of green lawn, while two colossal dazzling ruby-like spheres are propped high up, along with two earth-like spheres of Shanghai International Conference Center, presenting a picture of pearls, big or small, seemingly falling down from the top to the bottom, a scene full of poetic and artistic imagination.

The tower is mainly composed of 3 gigantic columns with a diametre of 9 metres, the space capsule, the lower and upper sphere, 5 spherical penthouses made of steel in different sizes, the pedestal and square. Bright and colorful, the three-dimensional illumination system is more beautiful than one can take in. The tower pedestal is composed of a grand lobby of some 3,000 square meters and a supermarket of almost 20,000 square meters. The diameter of the lower spheroid is 50 meters with its first floor for scenic view arcade located at 98 meters above sea level and the other floors installed with advanced equipment for amusements. The radiant upper sphere is 45 metres in diametre, and its observation deck is 263 metres high, making it the best place to get a bird's eye view of Shanghai. In the upper sphere, there is a revolving restaurant at the height of 267 metres with a seating capacity of 1,600 for viewing the city and still above is another floor of 20 karaoke bars at a height of 271 meters. . The luxurious and elegant towering penthouse is set at the height of 350 metres, in which there is a deluxe observation deck, a conference room and a cafe. In the 5 spherical penthouses it is an air hotel that has comfortable environment and unusual feeling. In addition, the Shanghai History Museum is a chronicles museum, especially presenting the history of Shanghai's development in the last hundred years.
