    Datong Arrival

    Arrival in Datong, your private guide will pick you up at the train station or airport on time and transfer you in a comfortable vehicle to your hotel.
  • Day2

    Datong: Yungang Grottoes, Nine Dragon Wall and Shanhua Temple

    In the morning, you will visit the Yungang Grottoes. Yungang Grottoes is the most famous historical site of Datong, 16 kilometers west of the city proper. In 2001 Yungang Grottoes was included in the UNESCO,'s World cultural Heritage List. Construction of the grottoes started in the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534), the grottoes number 53 in all. 
    Located at the centre of the city of Datong, Nine Dragon Wall was formerly the front screen of an imperial palace. It was built in the Ming Dynasty by the 13th son of Zhu Yuanzhang(1328-1398) leader of a peasant uprising, which helped to overthrow the Yuan Dynasty, and founder of the Ming Dynasty, called reverently Ming Taizu after death.
    Also known as South Temple, Shanhua Temple is on the western side of south street in Datong. First constructed in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), this temple is famous for its ancient architectures.

    Hanging Temple and Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, Datong to Mt.Wutai

    Today it will take 1 hour driving for a visit of Hanging Temple. The Hanging Temple was first built by monk Liaoran during the Northern Wei Dynasty and gradually became a temple complex for Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. It is home to 78 Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian statues made of copper, iron, stone and clay. The clay sculptures in the Hall of Sansheng represent the style of Tang and Ming Dynasties. In the Hall of Sanjiao are the statues of Sakyamuni, Confucius and laozi.
    After another 1 hourdriving, you will visit the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda. The pagoda, 70 kilometres south of Datong, is known as one of the five ancient structures of Shanxi. 
    Finally we will reach the Mount Wutai Scenic Zone and overnight there.

    Mount Wutai Tour, Mount Wutai to Taiyuan

    Mount Wutai is located in Wutai County in Shanxi Province, about 120 metres north of the city of Taiyuan. Legend says that a Manjusri( Bodhisattva of Wisdom) visited this mountain and decided to stay. Being the most famous of the four mountains in China that are sacred to Buddhists, the first monasteries and shrines built on the mountain date back to the first century A D. During the Tang Dynasty, when Buddhism enjoyed its zenith, there were more than 360 monasteries and shrines housing over two thousand monks and nuns.
    In the afternoon transfer to Taiyuan.

    Jinci Temple, Taiyuan to Pingyao Ancient City

    Today we will first visit the Jinci Temple, the most famous of all the historical relics in Taiyuan. The temple was built to commemorate the first King of the Jin Kingdom. And then we will leave Taiyuan and head towards Pingyao. The ancient city of Pingyao has its well-preserved wall (with 3,000 crenellations and 72 watch towers representing the 3, 000 disciples and 72 persons of virtue of Confucius), as well its layout of streets, shops, temples, government offices and homes, which have been kept in their original Ming and Qing Dynasty styles.

    Wang Family Compound, Zhangbi Ancient Fortress, Pingyao Departure

    Wang Family Compound is one of the largest residential complexes built by Shanxi merchants, occupying an area of more than 45, 000 square metres with 54 courtyards and 838 rooms. With different styles of layout, the residence is divided into two parts: the Gaojiaya architecture complex and the Hongmenbao architecture complex.
    Zhangbi Ancient Fortress, 10 km south of Jiexiu County, was first built as a fortress to store grain and station troops in ancient times. The village was built on a loess hill with high walls, a citadel outside the fortress gate to reinforce the defenses of the village and a gate tower. 
    After finishing the trip in Pingyao, you will move to the railway station.

Normally we will arrange vehicles with more space for you and your luggages. Depending on the number of passengers, we generally use sedans or minivans (7 seats) for 4 people or less, large vans or small buses (12-22 seats) for 5 to 12 people, medium cars (33-37 seats) for 13 - 25 people and large buses (more than 45 seats) for more than 25 people.
