    Datong Arrival

    Arrival in Datong, your private guide will pick you up at the train station or airport on time and transfer you in a comfortable vehicle to your hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day to explore the city by yourself.
  • Day2

    Datong: Yungang Grottoes, Shanhua Temple and Nine-Dragon Wall

    In the morning, we will first visit the Yungang Grottoes, the most famous historical site of Datong, 16 kilometers west of the city proper. Construction of the grottoes started in the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534). The grottoes number 53 in all In front of the 20th grotto is a seated statue of Sakyamuni, which is the representative work of ancient sculptures in the Yungang Grottoes.
    Also known as South Temple, Shanhua Temple is on the western side of south street in Datong. First constructed in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), this temple is famous for its ancient architectures.
    Datong is home to the largest Nine-Dragon Wall in China. It is 45.6 metres long, 8 metres high and 2.02 metres thick. It was built as a screen wall to go in front of the prince's mansion. In front is a 35-metre- long pond reflecting the screen. It was built in the Ming Dynasty by the 13th son of Zhu Yuanzhang(1328-1398) leader of a peasant uprising, which helped to overthrow the Yuan Dynasty, and founder of the Ming Dynasty, called reverently Ming Taizu after death.

    Datong: Hanging Temple, Yingxian Wooden Pagoda

    Regarded as the first wonder of Mount Hengshan, the Hanging Temple was built 1, 400 years ago during the Northern Wei Dynasty. The temple was built on the cliff of the mountain with about 40 buildings in lines about 50 metres up from the ground. The temples and halls are connected with plank paths built along the face of the cliff.
    Located in Yingxian County to the south of Datong, Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is the oldest and tallest wooden pagoda in China. Built in A D. 1056, it is a sixty-seven-metre-high octagon with a diameter of thirty metres at the base. From the outside it appears to be a five-storied structure, but since it has four additional inner stories it is actually a nine-storied structure. A rational, well-proportioned structure, the pagoda has withstood gunfire and earthquakes. Items of interest, in the pagoda include statues and frescoes. 
    After tour, it will take 3 hours driving to the Mount Wutai Scenic Zone and overnight there.

    Mount Wutai Tour

    Being the most famous of the four mountains in China that are sacred to Buddhists, Mount Wutai consists of five platform-shaped peaks, of which, the highest, at 3, 058 metres above sea level, is called the "roof of North China. Mount Wutai draws pilgrims from China and other Asian countries to come and pay homage. There are now forty-seven operating monasteries with over a hundred monks and nuns. 
    It will take 4 hours driving back to Datong and spend the last night in Datong.

    Departure from Datong

    Pick you up at your hotel and transfer to the train station or airport of Datong for you next destination. Our service ends here.
