Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breedinglocated on the Futou Mountain in the northern suburb of Chengdu and ten kilometers from the city proper. Now a broad Panda Road connects the research base to the city of Chengdu. It has become one of the major national bases for the protection of giant pandas and other precious wild animals which are on the edge of extinction. The permanent in-habitants in the base include such precious animals as great pandas, lesser pandas, black-necked cranes, white cranes, white swans, black swans, wild geese, mandarin ducks, peacocks, and over 90 types of wild birds, together with more than 300 types of advanced plants, which constitute an artificial ecological vegetation environment. Now the base is a wonderful combination of natural scenery and artificial landscape.

Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda BreedingThe research base has made great achievements in the breeding and reproduction of giant pandas all these years, and won lots of prizes and titles, such as the "Global 500 Roll of Honor" issued by United Nations Environment Programme, "China Top Prize of Green Technology Award"— the highest prize of environmental protection in China, "National Superior Project in Comprehensive Environmental Harness" and "Education Base for S & T Popularization". In 1993, Giant Panda Museum was set up inside the base, which is the world's only comprehensive museum with giant pandas as its theme, displaying and publicizing the protection of biological diversity.
