Beijing Baiyun Taoist Temple, White Cloud Temple

Baiyun (white cloud) Taoist Temple, located on the east side of Baiyun Road outside Fuxin Gate in Xicheng District, is one of three greatest patriarchal court of Quanzhen (complete perfection) school of Taoism. It was first built in the 27th year under me reign of Kai Yuan of the Tang Dynasty (739), and rebuilt several times afterwards. Most existing buildings were built during Ming and Qing dynasties.

The buildings of Baiyun Temple are arranged in three lines, Le. central line, east side line and west side line. Over fifty main buildings are all placed along the central line. From front to back are the archways, main gate, Linggong Hall, Yuhuang (Jade Emperor) Hall, Laolu Hall, Qiuzu Hall, Abstinence Platform and so on. Combining the features of Taoist temples of both north and south China, the Baiyun Taoist Temple has both magnificent structures and secluded atmosphere. Each hall is decorated with Taoist designs and patterns. Qiuzu Hall is the main hall of the temple, where a clay sculpture of Qi Chuji (a famous Taoist) is enshrined, under which his body is buried.

Baiyun Taoist Temple has been the No.l holy land of Quanzhen (complete perfection) school of Taoism since Ming Dynasty, and is the largest Taoist structure in Beijing with considerable historic and artistic values. It is a national cultural heritage under special protection.

2. Take bus 661, 623, 42, 691, 662, 46, 19, 390, 49 and get off at Tianningsi Qiaobei station, turn left to Baiyunguan Jie Street until you see it on the right
